3-2-1: On Creative Movement, Celebrating Small Wins and How Being Active Makes You Feel
Happy 3-2-1 Friday!
Here are 3 moves, 2 inspirations, and 1 question for your school, class or children next week…
3 Moves
1. When should you work out?
It doesn’t matter!
But work out when you have high energy times and align it with your circadian rhythm.
For me, I’m a morning person. I find it easier to get it done first thing, before my daughters are awake. Once I’m in the gym (garage) and moving, I feel like I’m ahead of the gam and feel energised for the rest of the day.
But find out what works for you, the most important thing is you get it done. Carve out 30 minutes at least 3 times a week.
Being busy is not an excuse, 30 minutes is less than 10% of your waking day.
If you find a time to workout that works for you, stick to it, move things in your calendar and prioritise your workouts. Then repeat for 1 month and let me know if you have managed to stick with it. Then if you can repeat this for 6 months, you have created a new habit.
Schedule your sessions in as a non-negotiable.
2. Movement Dice Game:
-
- Create large dice with different movements on each side (e.g., hop, skip, stretch, spin). Roll the dice during short breaks throughout the day, and everyone does the movement shown. This can be a fun, quick burst of activity that keeps kids energised
- You can also buy giant foam dices.
- Let the children assign movements to a number
- Select some children that are the ‘chosen ones’ to roll the dice, give them ownership
3. Interactive Story Time:
-
- Turn a storybook into an active experience. As you read, have children act out certain parts. For example, if there’s a part about a character running, all students stand up and pretend to run on the spot. This makes learning interactive and engaging.
- Transform carpet time into an active, fun time
- Try my favourite all time Disney Film – ‘The Jungle Book’. There are plenty of different movements that you can act out.
2 Quotes
Emma Raducanu:
- “I think the biggest thing for me is to just keep trying and stay as positive as I can.”
- This reflects her resilience and positive attitude, particularly after challenges in her career.
Raheem Sterling:
- “My mum always told me, if you want something, you work for it. She’s my biggest inspiration.”
- This shows Sterling’s emphasis on hard work and dedication, inspired by his background.
1 Question for your class
“How does being active make you feel, and why is that important?”
